The son of Basawan, a renowned painter under Akbar, he was born into the service of the court, worked as a junior artist in the 1580s and 1590s, sometimes with his father, and under Jahangir became one of the principal portraitists of the imperial studio. His portraits of princes and courtiers, often worked up from studies drawn from life, were mounted in the imperial albums. His work is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Cleveland Museum of Art.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eEach print is a giclée, printed to order.
