Little is recorded of his early training; by the 1890s he was producing posters for performers including Loïe Fuller and designing jewellery, theatre sets and book illustrations in the Art Nouveau style, later moving toward Art Deco. His posters combine sinuous line with rich decorative pattern, and he designed sets for the 1921 film L'Atlantide.
