Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon under Auguste Morisot and others, he produced eight etching series between 1901 and 1913, including a Danse Macabre portfolio, exploring death and decadence as a devout Catholic; he exhibited at the Salon d'Automne and illustrated for the satirical weekly L'Assiette au beurre. Wartime service left him with a stomach ulcer that ended his etching work, and he turned to woodcut before his death in Chartres in 1922.
