Below, tiers of haloed saints stand around a tall wooden cross: bishops in mitres, friars in black and white habits, martyrs with palms and books, and figures unrolling scrolls. Gold lettering on a blue band and lines of music staves run beneath. The cream margins hold gold roundels of half-length saints, winged angels playing fiddles and two kneeling figures in prayer.

The original: a miniature on vellum, Italian, about 1340; National Gallery of Art, Washington.

The Master of the Dominican Effigies is the name scholars give a Florentine illuminator and painter of the fourteenth century, after a panel in Santa Maria Novella showing Christ and the Virgin enthroned among saints and blessed figures of the Dominican Order. He often worked with Pacino di Bonaguida, and his manuscripts, including the Biadaiolo with its scenes of fourteenth-century Florence, show meticulous execution and a love of small narrative detail. Two of his miniatures are in the National Gallery of Art in Washington.

Each print is a giclée, printed to order.
