He wears a green dalmatic scattered with gold flowers, its collar and square panels in deep blue worked with gold, and white cloth hangs below his hands. One hand lies open; the other holds the thin dark handle of a gridiron whose bars show faintly on the gold. The oval field sits inside an orange-red letter traced with white filigree, with green and pale blue leaves curling at the sides.

The original: an initial D from a gradual choir book, miniature on vellum, painted between 1440 and 1450; National Gallery of Art, Washington.

The Master of the Murano Gradual is the name scholars give the illuminator of a gradual, a choir book of the sung parts of the Mass, probably from the Camaldolese monastery of San Michele in Murano, which survives only as scattered cuttings and leaves. A highly distinctive illuminator of fifteenth-century northern Italy, he painted broad, fully modelled, grave figures and probably worked alongside Belbello da Pavia. Leaves are held by the National Gallery of Art in Washington and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Each print is a giclée, printed to order.
