Courtiers kneel on the pale blue paving, an aged man in yellow sits at the left and an attendant holds a blue-and-white flask. A dark pool and a dish of red fruit lie before them. Beyond a red railing a tree stands on gold, and a blossoming branch with two white birds rises against a violet sky.

The original: a folio from the Shahnama (Book of Kings) of Shah Tahmasp, opaque watercolour, ink, silver and gold on paper, made in Tabriz, Iran, about 1530-35; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Muzaffar Ali was a Persian painter who worked for the Safavid court through the whole reign of Shah Tahmasp and died about 1576. A great-nephew of the painter Behzad, he was a leading artist of the younger generation on the Shah's illustrated Shahnama, and his pages show a good-natured eye for court life, rocks that jut in every direction and layered, pale colours rather than the usual saturated ones. His work is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Each print is a giclée, printed to order. Unframed prints are made on Hahnemühle German Etching, a 310gsm matte fine-art paper. Framed prints are printed on 200gsm matte fine-art paper and arrive in a handmade solid-wood frame with low-reflection glazing, ready to hang.
