Heavy black capitals head and close the sheet.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eNikolai Kupreyanov (1894–1933) was a Russian graphic artist and a leading master of woodcut, lithography and drawing. Born in Włocławek, he read law in St Petersburg while training with Dmitry Kardovsky and Kuzma Petrov-Vodkin and learning wood engraving from Anna Ostroumova-Lebedeva. Around 1919–1920 he designed several agitation posters, among them Citizens, Protect the Monuments of Art and Books Are the Source of Knowledge. He taught at VKhUTEMAS, won a gold medal for his woodcuts at the 1925 Paris exhibition of decorative arts, and drowned in 1933.
