The ground is a flat grey-brown, and the sheet is horizontal.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eOtto Eckmann (1865–1902) was a German painter and designer, a leading figure of Jugendstil. In 1894 he auctioned off his paintings and turned to the applied arts, designing woodcuts of swans, irises and water for the magazines Pan and Jugend, book ornament, textiles, furniture and the Eckmann typeface (1900), which gave Jugendstil its lettering. He taught ornamental painting at the Berlin School of Applied Arts until his early death from tuberculosis.
