A yellow border frames the sheet.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe original: a painting made in the Pahari kingdoms of northern India, in gum tempera and gold on paper, about 1700; Cleveland Museum of Art.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003ePahari painting is the painting of the small Rajput kingdoms of the Himalayan foothills of northern India, the Punjab Hill States, from the late seventeenth century into the nineteenth. It comprises two contrasting styles: the bold, intensely coloured Basohli manner, whose earliest known works date from about 1690, and the delicate, lyrical Kangra style that replaced it from the mid-eighteenth century, as painters trained in late Mughal naturalism, above all the family of Manaku and Nainsukh of Guler, spread through the hill courts. Like Rajasthani painting it centres on Krishna and Radha, with the epics, ragamalas and portraits, and it reached its peak under Raja Sansar Chand of Kangra (r. 1775–1823). Examples are held by the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Minneapolis Institute of Art.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eEach print is a giclée, printed to order.
