Discarded white and red clothing lies at their feet. Above, rounded green hills with trees meet a slate-blue sky crossed by white cranes and small birds, under a saffron band of script, all inside a black border.

The original: gum tempera, ink and gold on paper, about 1770-90, The Cleveland Museum of Art.

Raghogarh school is the painting of Raghogarh, a small Rajput state of the Khichi Chauhan clan in present-day Guna district, Madhya Pradesh, on the borders of Malwa and Rajasthan. Paintings attributed to it date from the later seventeenth century to the end of the eighteenth, and they are close enough to Bundi work that some carry both names. They are marked by planar compositions, a deep, rich palette and narrow-headed, wide-eyed heroines, often in simplified versions of Mughal pavilions, and by playful touches of landscape, such as a sun peeping from behind a flat black hill. Subjects include heroines awaiting their lovers, ragamala modes and Krishna as a courtly prince. Examples are held by the Cleveland Museum of Art and the National Museum of Asian Art in Washington.

Each print is a giclée, printed to order.
