Stippled rings of light surround the face, and from them spring long straight points alternating with wavy, flame-like rays, all set against a wider burst of fine engraved lines that reaches almost to the edges of the sheet. The lines are a soft grey-black on warm parchment-toned paper. Engraved for Robert Fludd's Utriusque Cosmi, 1617, page 19.

Robert Fludd (1574–1637) was an English physician and hermetic philosopher. He studied at St John's College, Oxford, then travelled and studied medicine and alchemy on the Continent before returning to practise as a physician in London. His major illustrated work, Utriusque Cosmi Historia (1617–1621), set out an elaborate cosmology in engraved diagrams of the macrocosm and microcosm, among the most striking scientific images of the early seventeenth century. Copies and manuscripts are held by the British Library and the Bibliotheca Philosophica Hermetica in Amsterdam.

Each print is made to our Archival Museum Standards: a 12-ink giclée, printed to order.
