Working for Maharana Amar Singh II (r. 1698–1710) and his successor Sangram Singh II, he painted portraits of his patrons: hunting, riding a prize stallion, inspecting elephants or at ease with the ladies of the zenana. His technique, a cross between the tonal grisaille drawing known in Mughal painting as nim qalam and watercolour, often leaves the paper bare around finely shaded forms. About forty-six paintings are now attributed to this artist and patron together, and his court reportage shaped later Udaipur painting.
