The print is dated 1926.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eTakahashi Shotei (1871–1945), who also signed Hiroaki, was the first designer to work for the shin-hanga publisher Watanabe Shōzaburō. Trained in the Kanō tradition from childhood, he produced hundreds of small landscape prints from about 1907 — rain on a river, snow on a shrine roof, lanterns in the dusk — in the intimate format that made shin-hanga popular abroad. The 1923 Great Kantō earthquake destroyed every block he had cut, and he spent his later years redesigning the series from scratch.
