The ground is a plain dark brown.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe Kunsthistorisches Museum notes that the same unidentified young woman posed for Titian several times, and that the pictures of her were probably made for Francesco Maria della Rovere, Duke of Urbino, or his son. It reads the picture less as a portrait than as a celebration of beauty, with fur set against skin as its main motif, in the spirit of Petrarchan love poetry. It was in the collection of Charles I of England before being acquired in 1651.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe original: oil on canvas, c. 1535; Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eTitian (Tiziano Vecellio, c. 1488–1576) was an Italian painter of the Venetian Renaissance, born in Pieve di Cadore. Sources disagree on his training; early writers name Giovanni Bellini and Giorgione among his teachers. He worked mainly in Venice, with periods in Padua, Ferrara, Mantua and Urbino, and became court painter to Emperor Charles V in 1533 and later worked for Philip II of Spain. He painted portraits, religious scenes and mythological subjects, using rich colour and increasingly loose brushwork; his late Poesie series for Philip II drew on Ovid. His work is held by the Uffizi, the Museo del Prado and the National Gallery, London.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eEach print is a giclée, printed to order.
