Probably painted in 1554-6, it was altered as he worked; Andromeda was first placed on the right. Sources disagree on his training; early writers name Giovanni Bellini and Giorgione among his teachers. He worked mainly in Venice, with periods in Padua, Ferrara, Mantua and Urbino, and became court painter to Emperor Charles V in 1533 and later worked for Philip II of Spain. He painted portraits, religious scenes and mythological subjects, using rich colour and increasingly loose brushwork; his late Poesie series for Philip II drew on Ovid. His work is held by the Uffizi, the Museo del Prado and the National Gallery, London.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eEach print is a giclée, printed to order.
