A plain tan band frames the text on all four sides. The section was copied by `Umar Aqta', probably in Samarqand.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eThe original: a section of a Qur'an manuscript copied by `Umar Aqta', ink, opaque watercolour and gold on paper, probably Samarqand, present-day Uzbekistan, late 14th-early 15th century. It is held by The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003e'Umar Aqta' was a calligrapher at the court of Timur (Tamerlane, died 1405). Historical sources tell that he first tried to impress Timur with a Qur'an small enough to fit under a signet ring and, when the ruler was unmoved, wrote one so large it had to be brought to him on a cart. Fragments of a gigantic muhaqqaq Qur'an are attributed to him.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eEach print is a giclée, printed to order.
