The artist's name and the year 29 are signed at lower right.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eViktor Deni (1893–1946), born Viktor Nikolaevich Denisov in Moscow, was a caricaturist and one of the founders of the Soviet political poster. He first drew for the magazine Budilnik and, from 1913, for the Petersburg journal Satirikon. During the Civil War he organised some of the first exhibitions of political posters and produced nearly fifty of his own, among them Capital and On the Grave of the Counter-Revolution, both of 1920. From 1921 he was a staff cartoonist for Pravda, and in the Second World War he returned to the poster.
