In the coloured part, split pomegranates showing dark seeds and whole ridged ones sit among pink cup-shaped blooms, round flowers with dark centres, and curling blue-grey and olive leaves. A fine brown stipple of dots fills the ground, and pale yellow stems cross the cluster. Watercolour and pencil design for wallpaper, 1886.

William Morris (1834–1896) was an English designer, writer and a leading figure of the Arts and Crafts movement. He studied at Oxford, worked briefly in the office of the architect G. E. Street, and in 1861 founded the decorative arts firm later known as Morris & Co., through which he designed wallpapers, textiles and books. His patterns, dense flowing arrangements of leaves, flowers and birds drawn from close observation of nature, argued for craftsmanship and honest materials against mass industrial production, an argument he extended in the books of his Kelmscott Press. His work is held by the Victoria and Albert Museum, the William Morris Gallery and the Ashmolean Museum.

Each print is a giclée, printed to order.
