Frequently Asked Questions

I’m new to buying fine art prints. Where should I start?

Many of our customers are purchasing their first fine art print and simply want to make a thoughtful choice for their home or workspace.

This is why we've created a detailed guide covering the essentials of buying high-quality art prints — including paper types, printing methods, framing options, and how to choose the right size for your space.

You can read it here:

The Ultimate Guide to Buying Fine Art Prints

Print Quality

What is a giclée print?

A giclée print is a museum-grade fine art reproduction produced using high-resolution inkjet printers and archival pigment inks. Unlike standard poster printing, giclée printing allows for significantly greater detail, tonal range, and color accuracy. When printed on archival fine art paper, giclée prints are designed to maintain their quality for decades.

All prints from 9 Art Prints are produced using 12-ink pigment giclée printers.

What paper do you print on?

All standard-ratio unframed prints are produced on Hahnemühle German Etching 310gsm, one of the most respected fine art papers in the world.

This heavyweight textured cotton paper is widely used by professional photographers, artists, and galleries because of its exceptional depth, texture, and archival qualities.

For framed prints and panoramic or tall formats, we may use either:

  • Hahnemühle German Etching 310gsm, or
  • archival fine art paper (200gsm)

depending on availability and format requirements.

Because we use premium fine art paper rather than poster stock, our unframed prints are typically more expensive than mass-market prints.

Why do you specify the exact paper used when many art print shops don’t?

Many print shops describe their prints using general terms like “museum grade,” “premium paper,” or “high-quality stock.”

Once a company specifies the exact paper used, however, it must consistently deliver that paper for every order.

High-volume print shops often maintain flexibility by avoiding specific paper names. At 9 Art Prints, we prefer to be transparent about the materials used so customers know exactly what they are receiving.

How long will the prints last?

Our prints are produced using archival pigment inks on fine art paper.

Under typical indoor conditions, and when rarely exposed to direct sunlight, these prints are expected to last 80 years or more without noticeable fading.

Are the prints made to order?

Yes. All artworks are printed to order.

This ensures each piece is produced fresh on archival materials rather than being pulled from warehouse stock.

Framing

What kind of frames do you use?

All frames are solid wood and hand-made to order by guild-certified framers.

Each framed artwork is produced alongside the print itself in our studios to ensure proper fit and finishing.

What glazing do you use for framed prints?

Our framed prints include low-reflection “motheye” perspex glazing, one of the highest-quality acrylic glazing materials available.

This glazing:

  • significantly reduces reflections
  • protects the artwork
  • is lighter and safer than traditional glass

Glass glazing — including Museum Glass — is available upon request.

Do framed prints arrive ready to hang?

Yes. All framed artworks arrive fully assembled and ready to hang.

Sizes

What is the largest print size available?

Maximum sizes currently available:

  • Unframed prints: up to 40 × 60 inches
  • Framed prints: up to 24 × 36 inches

Do you offer custom sizes?

Yes. Custom sizing may be available depending on the artwork and format.

Please contact us directly to discuss custom requests.

Yes. Shipping is free worldwide.

How long does delivery take?

Where are artworks shipped from?

To ensure faster delivery and reduced shipping distances, prints are produced and shipped from regional studios in:

  • North America
  • the European Union
  • Oceania / Australia

Orders are fulfilled from the closest production location whenever possible.

Returns & Satisfaction Guarantee

What is your return policy?

We offer a 30-day return window.

If you are unhappy with your order, please contact us and we will work with you toward a satisfactory resolution under our Satisfaction Guarantee.

What happens if my order arrives damaged or incorrect?

If your order arrives damaged or incorrect, we will replace or refund it immediately.

In these cases, the item does not need to be returned.

Artwork & Color Accuracy

Are all artworks authentic reproductions?

All artworks are reproduced from public domain or properly licensed sources, to the best of our knowledge.

Will the colors look exactly the same as on my screen?

Because screens display colors differently depending on device settings, minor color variations are normal when purchasing art online.

We calibrate our printing process carefully to produce accurate and faithful reproductions of the original artwork.
