Kamisaka Sekka (1866–1942) was the great revivalist of the Rinpa school in the Meiji and Taishō eras — the artist who brought the decorative tradition of Kōrin and Sōtatsu into the 20th century with his landmark album Momoyogusa (A World of Things, 1909–1910). His compositions — peonies, autumn leaves, waves, chrysanthemums — combine Rinpa's bold flat patterning with a modern graphic sensibility that anticipates the aesthetics of Art Nouveau and beyond.
