Amrita Sher-Gil — Self-Portrait with Red Background | Fine Art Giclée Print
Amrita Sher-Gil (1913–1941) — born in Budapest to a Hungarian mother and Sikh aristocrat father — became the defining painter of modern Indian art, and in 1933 the youngest artist ever elected Associate of the Grand Salon in Paris. This self-portrait from around 1930, painted during her years at the École des Beaux-Arts, shows why: the vermilion ground burns behind her like a challenge, the dark braid and slipped shawl framing a gaze that is direct, unsentimental, and entirely modern. It is a young artist announcing herself — equal parts Paris avant-garde and the Indian palette she would soon make her own.
Printed as a museum-grade giclée on Hahnemühle fine art paper using 12-ink archival pigment printing. Available handframed in FSC-certified wood with optional float glass, or unframed. Ships worldwide with free delivery to 30+ countries.
