Japanese Woodblock Prints

Japanese woodblock prints: ukiyo-e, shin-hanga and sosaku-hanga prints of landscapes, Mount Fuji, birds, flowers and figures, from the Edo period to the mid 20th century. The largest groups are shin-hanga landscapes by Hiroshi Yoshida (including his 1925 series of American and European mountains) and Kawase Hasui (1920s to 1940s), and bird-and-flower prints by Ohara Koson. Earlier ukiyo-e prints by Katsushika Hokusai include views from Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji (c. 1830). The collection also includes Ito Shinsui's bijinga print Before a Mirror (1916), Shiro Kasamatsu, Shoda Koho, and modern sosaku-hanga prints by Tokuriki Tomikichiro and Toshi Yoshida.

The selection follows the three main stages of Japanese printmaking, so changes in subject and technique can be compared.

The calm blues and flat colour suit bedrooms, home offices and minimal interiors; the tall Koson prints fit narrow walls. All prints are museum-quality reproductions, available unframed or framed with low-glare acrylic glazing, with free shipping and import duties covered.
