About Georges Meunier

Georges Meunier was a French painter, engraver, illustrator and poster artist, born in 1869 and died in 1942. He worked in Paris, designing colour lithographic posters for concert halls, dance halls and consumer products, and several of his posters were printed by the Paris firm Imprimerie Chaix. He also drew illustrations for the satirical magazine Le Rire.

Meunier is known for Belle Époque posters advertising Paris entertainment. His poster Tous les Soirs Trianon-Concert (1895) was reproduced in the series Les Maîtres de l'Affiche in 1897, and his Trianon, Spectacle, Bal, Concert poster dates from about 1897. Both advertise the Trianon, a Paris venue that offered shows, dancing and concerts. Examples of his posters are held by the Delaware Art Museum and the Zimmerli Art Museum at Rutgers University.

Georges Meunier prints: reproductions of the French posters he designed for Paris entertainment venues and brands between 1895 and 1919. The collection includes Jardin de Paris: Montagnes Russes Nautiques (1895), Bullier: Bal Masqué (1896), Trianon, 80 Bd Rochechouart (1897), St Cloud, Fête Patronale (1906) and Radiateur à Gaz Clamond (1919).

Our selection combines his posters for the Trianon, the Bal Bullier, the Jardin de Paris and the Saint-Cloud fair with advertising for Clamond gas stoves and heaters, Bec Kern, Pâte Marcerou and beef consommé. The posters show Parisian leisure and home life, from dance halls and fairground rides to cooking and heating.

The dance-hall and fair posters suit living rooms and hallways, and the gas-stove and food posters suit kitchens and dining rooms. All prints are museum-quality reproductions, available unframed or framed with low-glare acrylic glazing, with free shipping and import duties covered.
