About Ivan Malyutin
Ivan Andreevich Malyutin was a Russian graphic artist, poster designer and caricaturist, born around 1890 (sources give 1889 or 1891), and he died in Moscow in 1932.
Ivan Malyutin is known above all as one of the leading artists of the ROSTA Windows in Moscow between 1919 and 1921. These were satirical posters made for the Russian Telegraph Agency and displayed in shop windows to spread news and slogans during the Civil War. From 1919 until his death he drew caricatures for Soviet satirical magazines, and his work was included in a 1932 Moscow exhibition on caricature.
Ivan Malyutin prints: reproductions of the Soviet propaganda posters Ivan Malyutin designed in Moscow in 1920. Works include To the Polish front: only he deserves freedom who goes to defend it with a rifle (1920), We are fighting the lordly gentry, not the Polish working people! (1920) and Where There Is Work, Go There: May Day Is the Holiday of Labour (1920).
Most of this selection comes from the Polish-Soviet War of 1920, with slogans calling workers and peasants to the front. The images use simple cartoon figures, bold lettering and a few flat colours, in the satirical style of the ROSTA Windows.
The bold graphic posters suit home offices, studios, games rooms and hallways, and they work well hung in a row as a series. All prints are museum-quality reproductions, available unframed or framed with low-glare acrylic glazing, with free shipping and import duties covered.
