About Leonardo da Vinci

Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519) was an Italian painter, draughtsman, engineer and scientist, born on 15 April 1452 in or near the Tuscan town of Vinci. His father was a Florentine notary, and Leonardo trained in Florence with the sculptor and painter Andrea del Verrocchio. In 1483 he moved to Milan to work for the ruling Sforza family, and he later worked again in Florence, in Milan and in Rome. In 1517 he took a post at the French royal court and spent his last years near Amboise, where he died on 2 May 1519.

Leonardo finished relatively few paintings, but they are known for soft blended shadows, subtle expressions and a deep sense of atmosphere. The Last Supper (about 1495–98) was painted on the refectory wall of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, and he worked on the Mona Lisa from about 1503 for many years. His notebooks, filled with drawings and mirror-written notes, cover anatomy, astronomy, botany, map-making and the art of painting.

Leonardo da Vinci prints: reproductions of paintings and drawings by the Italian Renaissance artist Leonardo da Vinci. The collection includes the Mona Lisa, Lady with an Ermine (1490), Ginevra de’ Benci (1474), the Vitruvian Man (1490) and The Virgin and Child with St. Anne (1500).

This selection focuses on Leonardo's portraits of women and his paintings of the Madonna and Child, including the Madonna of the Carnation (1475), with the Vitruvian Man as the one drawing. The paintings share soft shading, muted earth tones and dark or landscape backgrounds.

The muted palettes suit living rooms, bedrooms and studies; the Vitruvian Man is a common choice for offices and libraries. All prints are museum-quality reproductions, available unframed or framed with low-glare acrylic glazing, with free shipping and import duties covered.
