Meindert Hobbema Prints

About Meindert Hobbema

Meindert Hobbema (1638–1709) was a Dutch Golden Age landscape painter, born in Amsterdam. He trained with the landscape painter Jacob van Ruisdael, and his early pictures closely follow Ruisdael's compositions. In 1668 he married and took a municipal post as a wine gauger in Amsterdam, checking and measuring imported wine, after which he painted much less. He died in Amsterdam in 1709.

Hobbema is known for wooded Dutch landscapes with sunlit clearings, cottages, winding roads and streams, lighter and calmer in mood than the work of his teacher. Water mills were one of his favourite motifs. His best-known painting, The Avenue at Middelharnis (1689), is in the National Gallery, London, which also holds The Ruins of Brederode Castle and several of his woodland scenes.

Meindert Hobbema prints: reproductions of the Dutch painter's woodland landscapes and water mills. The collection includes A Watermill (1664), The Water Mill (The Trevor Landscape) (1667), A Farm in the Sunlight (1668), A Stormy Landscape (1663) and View Along the Amstel (1660).

Our selection keeps to the countryside subjects he painted most: timber water mills beside streams, farm buildings among tall trees, and a river view on the Amstel. Light breaks through clouds onto clearings and water, with a palette of deep greens, browns and pale sky.

These landscapes suit living rooms, studies, bedrooms and hallways. All prints are museum-quality reproductions, available unframed or framed with low-glare acrylic glazing, with free shipping and import duties covered.
