Science & Astronomy Art Prints

Science and astronomy art prints: celestial maps, alchemical engravings, scientific illustrations and paintings of scientists, from the 14th to the 20th century. The largest group is 17th-century engravings by Robert Fludd and Athanasius Kircher showing the cosmos, the divine monochord and alchemical laboratories, with Andreas Cellarius's celestial map of the Ptolemaic system (1660) and the Italian Tarocchi cards of the planets and spheres (c. 1465). Paintings include Rembrandt's Anatomy Lesson of Dr Tulp (1632), Vermeer's The Geographer (1669) and Jacques-Louis David's portrait of the chemist Lavoisier (1788). Later works include Ernst Haeckel's Kunstformen der Natur (1904), illustrations for Jules Verne's From the Earth to the Moon (1868) and the Metropolis film poster (1927).

The selection shows how people pictured the cosmos and the body as science developed.

The maps and engravings suit studies, home offices and libraries. All prints are museum-quality reproductions, available unframed or framed with low-glare acrylic glazing, with free shipping and import duties covered.
