The Long Road

Roads and paths in art: paintings of roads, streets, boulevards, avenues and garden paths that lead the eye into the distance. The most represented artists are Gustave Caillebotte, Alfred Sisley and Camille Pissarro, with John Singer Sargent, Léon Spilliaert, Paul Cézanne, Paul Gauguin and Jacob van Ruisdael. Most works date from 1867 to 1909 and belong to Impressionism, with Symbolist views of Ostend and Ruisdael's Wheat Fields of about 1670. Typical subjects are Paris boulevards, including Caillebotte's Paris Street; Rainy Day (1877) and Pissarro's Boulevard Montmartre on a Winter Morning (1897), country roads, tree-lined avenues and streets in Venice and Morocco.

The works are grouped by composition, with each road drawing the eye from the foreground to a far vanishing point.

These views suit hallways, entryways and long walls, where the receding road adds depth to a narrow space. All prints are museum-quality reproductions, available unframed or framed with low-glare acrylic glazing, with free shipping and import duties covered.
