William Wendt (1865–1946) was a founding member of the California Art Club and one of the foremost California Impressionists. His luminous paintings of the California coast, hills, and chaparral — painted en plein air in the tradition of the Barbizon School — earned him the sobriquet "Father of Southern California Landscape Painting."
