William Stanley Haseltine Prints

About William Stanley Haseltine

William Stanley Haseltine (1835–1900) was an American landscape painter, born in Philadelphia. After university he trained among the American painters working in Düsseldorf, Germany, and then had a studio in New York. From the late 1850s he spent long periods in Italy, and in 1867 he settled in Rome with his family, where he lived for most of the rest of his life. He died in Rome in 1900.

Haseltine is known for clearly lit views of rocky coasts. In America he painted the rocks of Nahant in Massachusetts and Narragansett in Rhode Island; in Italy he painted Capri, Sicily, Tivoli and the countryside around Rome. Known works include Tivoli (1858) and Girgenti (1881), a view of the Temple of Juno at Agrigento, both in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and After a Shower, Nahant (1864), in the Brooklyn Museum.

William Stanley Haseltine prints: reproductions of landscape paintings and watercolours by the American painter William Stanley Haseltine, made between 1858 and 1892. The collection includes Marina Piccola, Capri (1858), Narragansett Bay (1864), Natural Arch at Capri (1871), Mt. Aetna (1871) and Ruins of the Roman Theatre at Taormina, Sicily (1889).

This selection concentrates on the Italian coast: Capri and Anacapri, Sicily with Etna and Taormina, and Venice, with the Grand Canal and Santa Maria della Salute at sunset. Stone pines at Cannes and Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island add places beyond Italy. Most views are open and calm, with clear light, sea and rock.

The calm sea views suit living rooms, bedrooms and coastal homes, and the wide landscapes and panoramic Venice view work above a sofa, bed or sideboard. All prints are museum-quality reproductions, available unframed or framed with low-glare acrylic glazing, with free shipping and import duties covered.
