William Stanley Haseltine (1835–1900) was an American landscape painter associated with the Hudson River School and the Luminist tradition, who spent much of his career in Europe. His views of Venice — luminous, architecturally precise, suffused with golden evening light — stand among the finest American landscape paintings of the 19th century. His treatment of water, stone, and the particular quality of Venetian light places him in the company of Canaletto and Turner as a chronicler of the world's most painted city.
