Ikkyū Sōjun (一休宗純, 1394–1481) was a Rinzai Zen Buddhist monk, poet, and calligrapher — the most irreverent, unconventional, and beloved figure in Japanese Zen cultural history. Born the illegitimate son of Emperor Go-Komatsu, he rejected the comforts of court life to pursue a radical, anti-institutional Zen, openly defying the orthodoxies of temple hierarchy, writing erotic poetry, frequenting taverns, and producing calligraphy of searing power. He became abbot of Daitoku-ji in Kyoto at the age of 81. His calligraphic works — bold, free, and charged with paradox — are among the most prized in Japanese art history and are held in collections worldwide.
Printed as a museum-grade giclée on Hahnemühle fine art paper using 12-ink archival pigment printing. Available handframed in FSC-certified wood with optional float glass, or unframed. Ships worldwide with free delivery to 30+ countries.
