Charles Angrand (1854–1926) was a French Pointillist and Neo-Impressionist painter — a close colleague of Georges Seurat and Paul Signac who applied the divisionist technique with quiet, meditative care to scenes of rural life, domestic interiors, and the Normandy countryside. Where Seurat was monumental and Signac was bold, Angrand was intimate: his charcoal drawings in particular — tender, economical, suffused with natural light — are now recognised as among the most beautiful works of the Neo-Impressionist movement.
