A snow-covered footbridge crosses a river before a pastel village
Claude Monet — Sandvika, Norway | Fine Art Print
Note: Framed prints require slightly longer production time
An arched wooden footbridge with railings spans a river in the foreground, its water reflecting shades of grey-green. Beyond it, snow blankets the roofs of red and pale green houses with red shutters, and bare trees are dusted white. A pale blue mountain rises in the distance under a soft grey sky. The canvas is signed and dated "Claude Monet 95" at lower left.
Claude Monet (1840–1926) gave Impressionism its name and its longest career. From the 1870s he painted outdoors in the Seine valley and on the Normandy coast, pursuing the changing light of a single motif in series — haystacks, poplars, Rouen Cathedral, the Thames — and from 1890 the garden he built at Giverny, whose water lilies occupied his last twenty-five years. His paintings are held by the Musée d'Orsay, the Musée Marmottan Monet, the National Gallery in London and the Art Institute of Chicago.
