A standing figure is wrapped head to foot in a robe drawn with loose, looping pencil lines that form spiral and circular patterns across the fabric. The face is only lightly sketched at the top of the sheet, and bare feet and a small square shape appear at the bottom. The drawing is signed GUSTAV KLIMT at lower right.

Gustav Klimt (1862–1918) was the leading figure of the Vienna Secession, which he co-founded in 1897. His golden period portraits and allegories — The Kiss, the portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer, the Beethoven Frieze — combine mosaic-like ornament and gold leaf with an unflinching treatment of the body, and his square landscapes of the Attersee are among the most serene paintings of the era. His works are held by the Belvedere in Vienna, the Neue Galerie in New York and the Leopold Museum.
