Bold red curling letters across the top name the Bal au Moulin Rouge dance hall above a red windmill silhouette. A blonde woman in a flower-trimmed hat and an open yellow dress rides a small dark mount side-saddle, her yellow slippers pointed as she rides. Around her, pale lavender-toned dancers in flowing skirts kick and twirl, and a caped woman leans into the frame at upper right. Red lettering below announces the hall's programme of balls. The artist signs Chéret at lower left.
Jules Chéret (1836–1932) was the father of the modern poster. A trained lithographer, he set up his own press in Paris in 1866 and over the next four decades produced more than a thousand colour posters for theatres, dance halls, perfumes and lamp oil, populated by the laughing, airborne women Parisians called Chérettes. He received the Légion d'honneur in 1890 for creating a new branch of art. His posters are held by the Bibliothèque nationale de France and the Musée des Arts Décoratifs.
Printed as a museum-grade giclée on Hahnemühle fine art paper using 12-ink archival pigment printing. Available handframed in FSC-certified wood with optional float glass, or unframed. Ships worldwide with free delivery to 30+ countries.
