Armoured horsemen in blue, orange and green caparisons clash across a crowded battlefield, lances raised and banners flying above fallen riders and horses. At the upper left, a chain of large linked wheels crosses the field, and drummers beat kettle drums beside a trumpeter on pale rocky ground. Two gold text panels with blue dividers are set into the composition at the upper right and lower register, within a red-and-gold ruled border.

Muhammad al-Qivam al-Shirazi was a calligrapher of Safavid Iran, recorded as active in the 1560s. His hand is identified in a copy of Firdausi's Shahnama made in Shiraz between 1562 and 1583, illuminated by Muhammad ibn Taj al-Din Haidar Muzahhib Shirazi, and in a mid-sixteenth-century copy of the collected works of the poet Sa'di. Little more is documented about his life. Pages he wrote are held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Printed as a museum-grade giclée on Hahnemühle fine art paper using 12-ink archival pigment printing. Available handframed in FSC-certified wood with optional float glass, or unframed. Ships worldwide with free delivery to 30+ countries.
