Paul Klee (1879–1940) was a Swiss-German artist who produced one of the 20th century's most singular bodies of work — spanning Expressionism, Cubism, Surrealism, and a visual language entirely his own. A celebrated teacher at the Bauhaus alongside Kandinsky and Moholy-Nagy, Klee believed that drawing was simply "a line that went for a walk." Over his lifetime he created more than 9,000 works — each a small universe of colour theory, symbolic depth, and quiet wit. His influence on modern abstraction, graphic design, and art education remains foundational.
