Pu Hua (蒲華, 1830s–1911) was a Chinese painter and calligrapher of the late Qing dynasty — one of the leading figures of the Shanghai school of literati art, which revived and transformed the classical Chinese ink-painting tradition in a period of rapid social change. Known for his bamboo, orchid, and plum paintings executed in rapid, fluid brushwork, he combined the formal rigour of classical calligraphy with an expressive freedom that made him one of the most admired calligrapher-painters of his generation. His works are now held in major collections of Chinese art.
