A bare-bodied male archer draws his bow, arrow nocked, lunging forward beside a broken column amid stylised swirling flames or foliage rendered in olive green and brick red. Above, a wide decorative panel bordered in leaf-and-torch motifs spells ANDB in cream capitals within red roundels; a short slogan is lettered beside the archer's raised arm. A lower panel, framed in the same geometric border, names the festival program marking the introduction of the eight-hour working day.

Richard Roland Holst (1868–1938) was a Dutch painter, draughtsman and designer who believed art should serve the community. Trained at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam, which he directed from 1926 to 1934, he followed William Morris in seeking purity and clear form. A socialist, he made woodcuts, lithographs, posters and book designs in a modified Symbolist style, many for the writings of his wife, the poet Henriette Roland Holst, and painted murals for the Beurs van Berlage and the Diamond Workers' Union building. His work is held by the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum and the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam.
