William Morris (1834–1896) was the central figure of the Arts and Crafts movement — a British designer, poet, writer, and socialist activist who transformed Victorian interior design and established principles of craft, beauty, and ethical production that continue to shape design today. His wallpaper and textile patterns — Acanthus, Trellis, Honeysuckle, Strawberry Thief, Pimpernel, Marigold, and dozens more — drew on medieval tapestry, Persian carpet, and the English countryside to create a body of decorative work unmatched in its influence, recognition, and longevity. Morris & Co. patterns are now produced under licence by the Victoria & Albert Museum and remain defining elements of British interior culture.
