Somber Art Prints

Somber art prints: dark, serious paintings and prints of death, war, mourning and suffering. The largest groups are Jacques Callot's etching series The Large Miseries of War (1633) and Max Klinger's etching cycle On Death (1889 to 1898). The collection also includes Arnold Böcklin's The Isle of the Dead, Alfred Kubin, Gustave Moreau's Pietà, Jean-Léon Gérôme's The Death of Caesar and The Christian Martyrs' Last Prayer, etchings by Félicien Rops, Victor Hugo's The Hanged Man, Francisco de Goya's Pilgrimage to the Fountain of San Isidro, Akseli Gallen-Kallela's Finnish Kalevala paintings, and 17th-century memento mori engravings by Hendrick Hondius and Nicolaes de Bruyn.

The selection treats death and suffering seriously, through series and memento mori images.

The black-and-white etchings suit studies, libraries and hallways, hung as a series; the Böcklin and Gérôme paintings work as one large piece. All prints are museum-quality reproductions, available unframed or framed with low-glare acrylic glazing, with free shipping and import duties covered.
