A blonde woman with her hair swept into a high knot wears an off-the-shoulder pale sage-green gown; an ochre-gold wrap crosses her body. One hand holds an armful of flowers at her chest, pink gladioli, yellow daisies and pink and white blossoms, whose long stems run down to her other hand. She stands against a soft peach, cloud-streaked ground with pale ghostly plant forms at her feet, inside a rectangular border of small green crosses with Greek-key corners. Signed and dated "Mucha 1900" at the lower right.

Alphonse Mucha (1860–1939) created the look of Art Nouveau almost overnight with his 1894 poster for Sarah Bernhardt's Gismonda. Through the following decade in Paris his theatre bills, advertising panels and decorative series — the Seasons, the Flowers, the Times of Day — set women in halos of stylised ornament, pale colour and flowing hair. He later devoted himself to the Slav Epic, a cycle of twenty monumental canvases. His work is held by the Mucha Museum in Prague and the Musée d'Orsay.
