A maned lion stands full-length, facing forward between two olive-green tapestries patterned with pale wreaths, a strip of blue sky above his head. At his feet a tawny lioness reclines, and beside her a fox in a grey hooded monk's habit lies with one reddish paw on a tall wooden staff hung with a rosary. A spotted leopard curls at the lower left, and two tufted-eared lynxes sit upright on the ledge, flanked by smaller hooded, dark-masked creatures. An illustration for the medieval Dutch fable Van den vos Reinaerde, 1910.

Bernard Willem Wierink (1856–1939) was an Amsterdam draughtsman, illustrator and designer, one of the first Dutch artists around 1900 to make picture books on artistic principles. Writing as Oom Ben, he produced Pim's Poppetjes (1898) and Jan Klaassen (1903), and in 1910 he illustrated Stijn Streuvels's retelling of the medieval Reinaert de Vos, setting text and image within frames of stylised flowers and animals in the spirit of the Arts and Crafts movement. He also made lithographs and woodcuts of animals. His prints are held by the Rijksmuseum and the Drents Museum.

Printed as a museum-grade giclée on Hahnemühle fine art paper using 12-ink archival pigment printing. Available handframed in FSC-certified wood with optional float glass, or unframed. Ships worldwide with free delivery to 30+ countries.
