A blue, red and gold zodiac wheel amid white birds in flight

Carel Adolph Lion Cachet (1864–1945) was a Dutch designer who helped transform the decorative arts in the Netherlands around 1900. Trained as a primary-school teacher and introduced to Japanese art and batik by his drawing teacher Ben Wierink, he worked closely with Gerrit Willem Dijsselhof and Theo Nieuwenhuis for decades. His output took in wood engravings, wallpaper, carpets, ceramics, furniture, stamps, banknotes, posters and book bindings, as well as complete saloon interiors for the Stoomvaart Maatschappij Nederland and the Koninklijke Paketvaart Maatschappij. His work is held by the Rijksmuseum, Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and the Drents Museum.
