Shah Jahan stands on a golden cushion atop a white marble pedestal, wearing a pink floral jama, a gold-patterned sash and pearl necklaces, his dark turban crowned with a black plume. A rainbow-hued halo rises behind his head; above, four winged cherubs hover in golden clouds beside a crescent moon. He holds a small pendant in his raised hand and grips a dagger hilt at his waist with the other. Behind him a river landscape opens past a pierced white marble screen. Black nasta'liq verses run through the gold-and-blue floral border framing the scene.

Chitarman was a painter at the Mughal court of Shah Jahan, documented as active from about 1627 to 1670. His earliest dated picture was painted in 1627–28, around the time of Shah Jahan's accession, and his work appears in the Shah Jahan Album, whose folios pair a painting on one side with calligraphy on the other, each set within a decorated border. Little else is recorded of his life. His work is held by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Printed as a museum-grade giclée on Hahnemühle fine art paper using 12-ink archival pigment printing. Available handframed in FSC-certified wood with optional float glass, or unframed. Ships worldwide with free delivery to 30+ countries.
