Jagged tongues of orange, brown and pale-yellow flame rise in flattened Art Deco shapes against a cream ground, billowing grey-white smoke curling away to the right. A small dark silhouette of a spired building burns at the base of the flames. Bold lettering below names the London Museum. The artist signed and dated the plate 1922.

Edward McKnight Kauffer (1890–1954) was the most influential poster designer in interwar Britain. An American who settled in London in 1914, he brought Vorticism and Cubism to commercial art in more than a hundred posters for the London Underground, Shell and the Daily Herald, whose Soaring to Success flight of birds (1919) became a landmark of modern graphic design. He returned to New York in 1940. His work is held by the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Museum of Modern Art.
