Ilya Chashnik (1902–1929) was a Russian Suprematist artist and student of Kazimir Malevich, one of the most gifted practitioners of the movement's language of pure geometric form. Working at Vitebsk under Malevich's UNOVIS collective, he produced striking compositions of circles, arcs, and planes that channelled Suprematism's spiritual and spatial ambitions. He died at 27, leaving a compact but potent body of work prized by collectors of the Russian avant-garde.
