A haloed genius ascends trailing a garland of red roses
Jean Delville — The Victorious Genius | Fine Art Giclée Print
A winged genius rises through banks of rose-pink cloud into a mint-green sky, a white-gold halo blazing behind his crowned head and a great flame-red wing sweeping down to the left. Below him two further figures ascend in his wake, one lifting a heavy garland of dark red roses that loops across the whole lower half of the sheet, the other borne upward with head thrown back. Delville's ideal of spiritual victory: the body as a vehicle of light rather than an obstacle to it. Printed on its original tinted mount from the Prints Department of the Royal Library of Belgium.
Jean Delville (1867–1953) was the most uncompromising of the Belgian Symbolists — a painter, poet and Theosophist who believed art should be an initiation rather than a decoration. He founded the Salon d'Art Idéaliste in Brussels, taught at the academies of Glasgow and Brussels, and pursued a vision of spiritual evolution through the human figure that has no real parallel in European painting.
Printed as a museum-grade giclée on Hahnemühle fine art paper using 12-ink archival pigment printing. Available handframed in FSC-certified wood with optional float glass, or unframed. Ships worldwide with free delivery to 30+ countries.
