Ohara Koson (1877–1945) was the supreme master of kachō-ga — the Japanese art of bird-and-flower prints — and the most beloved name in the Shin Hanga movement. Working with publisher Watanabe Shōzaburō, he produced hundreds of prints of birds, blossoms, and small creatures rendered with extraordinary delicacy and emotional restraint. His works — spare, luminous, perfectly observed — remain the most collectable of all Shin Hanga prints and are held in major museum collections worldwide.
